Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of supplementing male Karadi lambs with green cardamom powder on growth performance. This study was carried out at farm in Animal Science Department, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Sulaimani. There were twenty-four lambs divided into four equal groups. The control group only received the basic diet , while the other three groups were supplemented with green cardamom at doses of 40 mg (T1), 80 mg (T2), or 120 mg (T3) per kg of body weight. The growth performance of Karadi male lambs was evaluated over a 12-week experimental period. Our results showed that the mean values of initial body weight (week 0) averaged 25.29 ± 3.06 kg across all lambs,  the final body weight ( week 12) was   39.830 ± 4.457 kg, Total weight gain of 14.539± 2.997 kg. The average daily gain (ADG) was calculated as 0.173 ± 0.036 g/day ,feed conversion ratio (FCR) was 3.634 ± 0.687 and feed efficiency (FE) was  0.284 ±0.051. Over a period of 12 weeks, lambs grew steadily, and their final weights ranged from 37.800 ±1.948 to 42.440 ±1.907kg  kg, indicating that all groups performed effectively overall. Cardamom supplementation enhanced growth performance and feed utilization in Karadi male lambs, T2 and T3 had significantly higher total weight gain, ADG, and FE, and significantly lower FCR compared to the control and T1 (p < 0.05).
